The Edinburgh doctoral thesis of one John Hemming (d. 1809), of Kingston in Surrey, on the subject of sleep. Afterward he moved to London where he was physician to the Marylebone infirmary. At least two other recent Edinburgh doctoral graduates (both 1783) had also dealt with sleep in their dissertations, as recorded in ESTC.
