2 vols., 8vo, pp. [iii]-xlvii, [i], 339, ; [iv], 335, + 2 engraved plates after Stothard. Half-title of vol. 1 discarded. Contemporary tree calf, flat spines gilt in compartments, red and green morocco labels (the latter with red circular numbering onlays). Plates somewhat foxed, some spotting elsewhere. Extremities a little rubbed, slight cracking to ends of front joint of vol. 1, but in nice state overall. Early armorial bookplate of Vice Admiral Young (either James or William, brothers who achieved the same rank in different squadrons) to front pastedowns, covering up the residue from the removal of a previous bookplate.
An attractive copy of this translation of Tasso's epic poem, first published in 1763 (and subscribed to by Samuel Johnson).
