J.T. Headley (1813-1897), prolific American author and ordained minister, travelled to Europe in 1842 to escape the strain of preaching. This volume contains more on the Swiss Alps than the Rhine, including an ascent of Montanvert (or Mer de Glace). It was published by Wiley & Putnam in New York in 1845, then reissued the following year in London as part of the publisher's 'Library of American Books'; the substantial catalogue at the rear includes a selected list of their imported titles.
