The first publication of this extract from the antiquary William Darrell's 'Castra in campo cantiano', a treatise on Kentish castles left in manuscript at the author's death in or around 1580. Translated into English by Alexander Campbell and with illustrations supplied after drawings made in 1760, it was reprinted in 1797 and again early in the 19th century.
