The political theorist and book collector Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun (1653-1716) published numerous pamphlets on political subjects, which are collected here with reproductions of their original title-pages but continuous pagination. 'Fletcher's reputation as a 'patriot'... was well established in his own lifetime... An important early step in its consolidation was the collection of his pamphlets in a volume of Political Works, published in 1732 by three London booksellers; who or what prompted them to do so is unknown' (ODNB).
