Description

2 vols., 4to, pp. [ii], 116 + frontispiece and 53 plates; [iv], [117]-224, [2] + 55 plates. Original green ribbed cloth, boards and spine blocked in gilt. Plates foxed, occasional minor soiling, a few tissue guards lost. Neatly rebacked preserving original backstrips, a few marks and some rubbing to gilt, corners a touch worn.

Notes

A larger-format and expanded reprint of Hogarth Moralized, containing - in addition to the prints - explanatory commentary by the prolific Revd John Trusler. Jane Hogarth, the artist's widow, had originally commissioned Trusler to write the commentary, and the first edition of Hogarth Moralized was published and sold by her.
