Delivery and Terms & Conditions

Delivery

All parcels are fully insured. We pack securely, including layers of paper, bubble wrap, cardboard, and a final coating of waterproof paper to ensure any purchases get to you safe and sound. If you have any special requests or required timings, please be sure to include details of these in the comments with your order.

Postage is charged at a flat rate calculated to cover the cost of our usual shipping services for a single average book; we do not charge more for larger orders or heavy items ordered through this website. Only if you request a specific service, and that service is costlier than our usual choice, will we contact you to request payment for additional postage charges before finalising the order. Our choice of service will always be traceable and signed-for where possible, with the specific service used for your order depending on its weight, size, and destination.

All items sent outside the UK may be subject to customs clearance, duties, and/or local taxes. These are the responsibility of the purchaser, though if your purchase is held up in customs it can help speed things along for the sender and receiver both to contact the shipper/customs agent and we are happy to do so at your request.

We will only post books ordered through this website to the billing address of the payment card.

Terms & Conditions & Personal Data

All books on this site are offered subject to prior sale. We update these listings as frequently as possible but having an open shop means it is always possible that something might have just been sold elsewhere.

Only when we confirm your order by email has a contract been established between you and McNaughtan’s Bookshop. All books remain the property of McNaughtan’s Bookshop until such time as payment is received in full by us or the relevant payment intermediary. We will use your contact details to send you your purchases and messages directly relating to your order, in accordance with a standard contract of sale.

We store our customers’ contact details and relevant personal data securely on our own computer systems and only share them with third parties where directly necessary to fulfilling orders or contacting customers – these third parties include but are not limited to courier companies such as UPS, Parcelforce, and DHL, and contact services such as Mailchimp. We do not take or store any special categories of data such as ‘Sensitive Personal Data’, and no personally identifiable data is taken or stored from visitors to the website who do not place an order.

When it is relevant to our legitimate business interests and the interests of our customers we send occasional communications by email – including lists of recent acquisitions or announcements of events.

At any time you may: 1. Request a copy of all personal data we hold on you; 2. Ask for any or all such data to be corrected, amended, or deleted; 3. Unsubscribe from specific types or all email communication from us; 4. Report or query a data processing issue. The fastest way to unsubscribe or customise your communications preferences is via the link at the bottom of one of our communications. For any other data matters please email info@mcnaughtans.co.uk.

Payment Methods

We accept payment by all major credit/debit cards, by Paypal, bank/wire transfer, and cheques in pounds sterling drawn on a UK bank. Credit card payments are processed securely through Stripe, fully protected and encrypted with SSL. If you choose the Paypal payment option you can also have Paypal process card payments securely, without requiring a Paypal account. Under no circumstances do your credit card details touch our servers and we do not store them.

For payments by transfer or cheque, we will reserve the books on receipt of your order to await clearance of the payment into our account. If we have not received payment within 14 days from your order, the reservation will be released and the books returned to the shelves.

Right of Return

As members of the ABA we uphold their code of fair dealing in addition to the EU statutory principles of consumer rights. Therefore, any purchase made through this website may be cancelled within 14 days of receipt for a full refund under EU distance selling regulations. We also additionally guarantee all goods we offer to be as described in our listings. Any item found to be not as described may be returned for a full refund.

To cancel an order, email us at info@mcnaughtans.co.uk. Please include details of which book(s) you wish to return and, if the book was not as described, any details of the issue. We will reply to confirm acceptance of the return and make return postage arrangements.

If there are any other problems with your order whatsoever, please contact us and we will do our utmost to resolve them promptly and satisfactorily.
