FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, 8vo. pp. [iv], 43, [5]. Original quarter vellum, blue paper boards, spine lettered in gilt. A little light foxing, pencil mark to title page. Top edge slightly sunned, small area of damage to top fore-corners. Rear blank numbered ‘No. 19’ and flyleaf inscribed ‘H.W. Akers, from the Editor, 7. November 1931’ (in the same hand as the numbering); ALs from the editor dated 7th December 1931 tipped in to front pastedown.


The first printing of these letters and documents recording the short life of young Edward Blagdon, the first member of his family to seek employment outside Devon, in attaining a cadetship in the East India Company. Privately printed in an unspecified number of copies, though probably small, and many undoubtedly presented by the editor.
