PRESENTATION COPY, 4to, pp. [ii], viii, 78, [2] + frontispiece etching and 2 plates. Tail-pieces printed throughout text, title page printed in red and black. Original vellum, gilt lettering and vignette to front board, spine lettered in gilt, edges untrimmed. Binding very slightly dust-soiled, spine ends bumped, endpapers slightly foxed. Ink inscription ‘A.F. Radcliffe, from J.C. with many kind regards’ to front flyleaf, ink correction to two lines of poetry.


A scarce edition of a selection of ballads from the Iliad, with lovely etchings and illustration by Tristram Ellis (1844-1922). This copy was presented by the author, who wrote a correction above two lines of one ballad. Library Hub only locates copies at the British Library, University of Cambridge Library, and Trinity College Dublin Library.
