Notes

One of several major works by the distinguished and important surgeon John Hunter (1728-1793), his Observations on Certain Parts of the Animal Oeconomy contains fourteen separate monographs on various subjects in animal and human anatomy, with important results and descriptions concerning the olfactory nerves, the structure of the placenta, sex characteristics in birds, and more. This copy is bound with the second edition of another significant work, first published 1786, recording Hunter's studies into venereal disease - for which he was reported, probably falsely, to have infected himself with gonorrhoea and syphilis.
