8vo, pp. [ii], xii, 307, [1]. Contemporary red turkey, spine gilt in compartments, black morocco label. Faintly toned, occasional dustsoiling. Spine a bit darkened, a touch of rubbing to extremities, small marks to boards. Armorial bookplate of William Colhoun, Esq. to front pastedown.

The fourth Foulis edition of Horace, following on from the 1744 'Immaculate' edition and reprints of 1750 and 1756 (the latter a medal-winning printing). This is almost certainly a Foulis binding - red turkey gilt, known to have been Robert Foulis's preferred style, and with the distinctive cross spine pattern which Gaskell found on 'a surprisingly wide range of Foulis books, and... nowhere else' ('Early Work', The Library Fifth Series VII p. 87.), though he could not rule out this being another binder who happened to handle a huge number of Foulis volumes.
