Notes

Walter Steuart of Pardovan was parliamentary commissioner for Linlithgow and an elder in the Kirk, in which capacity he compiled this textbook of Scottish Presbyterian church governance and worship. Reprinted in the early 1770s, it served an influential role among Presbyterians in the American colonies as a manual of practice, as well as remaining an important text for the Scots Kirk well into the 19th century.
