ONE OF 40 COPIES ON LARGE PAPER, 8vo, pp. 280. Contemporary vellum boards, spine lettered in ink. Some light foxing and spotting, a few small ink splashmarks, one or two pencil notes. Vellum somewhat soiled. Cancelled stamps of a Swiss library to front endpapers and title-page, along with ownership inscription of Salomon Voegelin dated 1786.

An early example of the bibliographical complexity which became something of a hallmark of the Foulis Press: issued as an octavo on two different sizes of paper and also apparently impressed as a duodecimo, with the octavo copies found bearing four different title-pages printed at various times in the 1740s. This is one of forty copies only printed on royal paper and priced initially at 8s, against 3s 6d for the regular paper octavo. This copy has the corrected 'Millar' title-page, with the large-paper statement at the foot, as described in Gaskell's addenda - but in variation to that description, 2I4 here is still a cancel. Gaskell cites two copies of the large-paper issue but the second, described by B.J. McMullin in the Book Collector (v. 28 p. 573) is in fact a different variant, the 'Robert and Andrew Foulis' title-page with the large-paper statement.
