12mo, pp. [xxx], 562, [30] + 17 plates (1 folding). 18th century red morocco, spine divided by gilt rolls between gilt rules, second compartment lettered in gilt direct, other compartments tooled in gilt, edges gilt. Small tear to stub not affecting folding plate. A touch marked, front joint starting, spine a little discoloured. Bookplate of Thomas Gaisford to pastedown, small bookplate initialled A.P.M.H. to flyleaf.

Notes

Second edition following the 1617 quarto first of Flemish scholar Josse de Ryche's (1587-1627) study of the antiquities of the Roman Capitol. This copy belonged to classicist and clergyman Thomas Gaisford (1779-1855), a curator of the Bodleian Library and delegate of The Clarendon Press.
