FIRST COLLECTED EDITION, 12mo, pp. [vi], 184, [viii], 87, [1] + engraved half-title. Later vellum boards, fore-edge extensions, red morocco labels to spine. Lightly spotted, short tear to fore-margin of half-title and title-page. Vellum a bit darkened, labels chipped. Stamp of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland to half-title and title-page (dispersed between 2011 and 2015), the latter darkened and spread obscuring a few characters; earlier ownership inscriptions to the same two leaves (one of George Cleghorn).

Three texts on human reproduction gathered for the first time: Plazzoni's work, first published 1621, makes early note of perineal tears and rectovaginal fistulae and improves on Bartholin's classic work; Nymman's text on the fetus, first 1628, is an important step in the move from theology to scientific knowledge of embryology; Spigel's 'Epistola de Incerto Tempore Partus' follows at the end of the Nymman.
