FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. [iv], 116, [2] + frontispiece. Original grey wrappers printed in black, photograph mounted to front. Paper age-toned, first gathering strained but sound, wear to spine ends.

A scarce collection of 'thrilling stories' from a guard on the Caledonian Railway, some of which first appeared in the Dundee Weekly News. Shunning the minutiae of distances and timetables, the stories here cover robbery, stolen jewels, elopement and signalling disasters narrowly averted. With an advert for Caledonian Railway express services to rear, should the reader desire such excitement for themself. Worldcat locates just four copies of this first edition, at the NLS, Aberdeen, Manchester, and Georgia. (An apparent second edition of the same year is even rarer, in York & Leicester only.)
