8vo, pp. vii, [i], 54 + 2 folding tables, folding map. Mostly unopened in original ribbed black cloth, paper label to spine. Map with tiny handling tears to margin, a little offsetting from folding, folded slightly proud and browned to protruding edge. Binding somewhat soiled.

A rare report on road-building, most of which is concerned with the successful efforts of Captain, later Admiral Robert Craigie (1800-1873) to build roads on Shetland, all of which are marked on the large folding map to rear. A short report on a road in Sutherland completed in 1851 is also included; sections of this road ultimately became part of the modern A838. OCLC records just two copies of this title, one in Kansas and the other in a bound volume of pamphlets in the National Art Library.
