William Robertson's perennially popular 'History of Scotland, during the Reigns of Queen Mary and of King James VI' was first published in English in 1759 and much reprinted in the following years. An immediate success, it first appeared in French in 1764 and this is one of a handful of 18th century French editions, this translation by Jean-Louis Blavet, primarily known for his French editions of the works of Adam Smith.
