A special production to commemorate 350 years since the founding of Pembroke College, Oxford. The original manuscripts of Johnson's 'Prayers and Meditations' had been given to the Rev. George Strahan, son of Johnson's main publisher, shortly before the author's death; the resulting edition of 1785 was significantly edited, but the manuscripts passed to Strahan's daughter and were given by her to Pembroke in the 1820s, enabling this fully faithful and unexpurgated reproduction at last some 150 years later.
