FIRST EDITION, NO. 32 OF 103 COPIES SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR and printed on Japon vellum, small 4to, pp. 149, [3] + 1 plate. Printed in red and black throughout. Original half blue-green morocco by the Roycroft Shop, marbled boards, spine divided by raised bands, second and fourth compartments gilt-lettered direct, the others with gilt floral tools, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. Spine slightly darkened, extremities a touch rubbed. Blind stamp of the initials ‘R.B.H.D.’ to first few leaves.


The limited signed issue on special paper of this title by the founder of the William Morris and Arts & Crafts-inspired artists' group the Roycrofters, in a deluxe binding signed with their monogram at the foot of the spine. The elaborately decorated double-page title-page may have been designed by Dard Hunter, who worked for Hubbard at the Roycroft Press before becoming an authority on papermaking.
