8vo, pp. [iv], 567, [3] + engraved frontispiece and extra title page. Original maroon cloth, black paper labels to spine lettered in gilt, edges untrimmed. Binding sunned, mainly to spine, extremities bumped, some marks to boards. Modern book label to front pastedown.

Notes

Theodore Hook (1788-1841) was a composer and prolific writer known for his wit and practical jokes. This is number 35 of Bentley's Standard Novels, the series which first reissued Jane Austen's completed novels in 1833. Scarce in original cloth.
