Description

FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. xxxvii, [iii], 338 + 13 wood-engraved plates, and a large folding engraved map. Original drab boards backed in purple textured cloth, printed paper label. Corner torn out from front flyleaf, a touch of foxing. Spine faded and bruised to head with rear hinge beginning to crack, boards somewhat marked and rubbed.

Notes

The scarce companion volume to 'Traditions of Edinburgh' (2 vols., 1824 - the index in this volume gives reference to all three), and something of a collection of out-takes from previous research, marking the end of Chambers' historical work as he shifted to Whiggish causes.
