8vo, pp. [xxxii], 768, [48]. Contemporary dark sprinkled calf, boards bordered with a triple blind rule, spine divided by raised bands, second compartment lettered in ink, edges red. Toned, some spotting, occasional tiny pinprick wormtrails in lower margin and a small dampmark towards the end. Boards marked, surface nibbled in places and a touch worn, front joint cracking but sound, front flyleaf removed. Ownership inscriptions of Fra: Corbet and J.B. Malloy to title-page.

Notes

The collected works of Aurelius Theodosius Macrobius, the fifth-century AD Roman author of, most prominently, the Saturnalia. This is the second edition by the Dutch scholar Johannes Isaac Pontanus (or Johannes Isaaczoon, 1571-1639), who had first edited the text in 1597.
