FIRST EDITION, 4to, pp. [ii], xvi, 225, [1] + engraved frontispiece and 51 engraved plates. Untrimmed in later half green roan, green cloth boards, spine lettered in gilt. Some spotting, plates a bit foxed, one or two short handling tears and some dustsoiling. Extremities rubbed and some a touch worn, spine creased, hinges cracked but sound, rear board marked. Gift inscription to initial blank (preserved from earlier binding) ‘David Maitland Mackenzie from his affectionate Thomas Hay, 27 Lauriston, August 6th 1827, Monday’.
