Notes

A frequently-reprinted work, first published in Italian in Palermo in 1745. It was soon translated into Latin for wider distribution, with this being the first edition printed in Germany. Francesco Emanuele Cangiamila (1702-1763), canon of Palermo and later provincial inquisitor of Sicily, compiled the text as a treatise on all the subjects necessary to prevent children from dying before baptism - including confession, private hygiene, and obstetric medicine, with a particular focus on caesarian birth for cases of maternal fatality.
