John Arrowsmith (1602-1659), master of Trinity College, Cambridge, opposed religious tolerance; his sermons to Parliament (of which this is the first) 'voice his mounting concern about the rise of religious sects and parliament's unwillingness to suppress them' (ODNB). The rare variant with 'Preachee' in the drop-title on leaf B1 (Linen Hall, Mitchell, Folger, Union Theological only in ESTC).
