8vo, pp. [viii], 500 + engraved frontispiece and additional engraved title page. Original maroon cloth, black paper labels to spine lettered in gilt, edges untrimmed. Binding sunned, mainly to spine, spine ends bumped, some marks to boards. Modern book label to front pastedown, ownership inscription to front pastedown and title page of J.R. Hay at Seggieden, dated 1837.

Notes

Theodore Hook (1788-1841) was a composer and prolific writer known for his wit and practical jokes. This is number 46 of Bentley's Standard Novels, the series which first reissued Jane Austen's completed novels in 1833. Scarce in original cloth.
