Sheila Chapman

All Our Lives, 24TH October – 23rd December 2017.

Sheila studied physics at university and worked as a patent attorney for ten years before deciding to focus on her lifelong interest in making art. She completed a BA degree in Combined Studies (Art & Design) at Edinburgh College of Art in 2016, and is now a practising artist living and working in Edinburgh. She makes contemporary figurative paintings and drawings, working most often in acrylic on wood, or mixed media on paper. She exhibits locally and online, and is available for commissions.

Sheila writes: This new body of work was inspired by a collection of photographs I inherited from my late mother-in-law some years ago. She was born in 1940 and died from a brain tumour at the age of 57. Looking through the photos recently I was struck by how, for all of us, at any given moment we may not realise we are living one of the best moments of our lives.

In the paintings and drawings presented here I sought to celebrate such often unremarked times, and the human emotion contained within them. Some of the images are so indicative of their time, and yet also seem to capture something universal, and I hope that you too will find something in them which strikes a chord with your own life.

We look forward to seeing you!
